Are You Skimping On Your Skin Care Routine?

Have you ever thought of skipping out on washing your face before bed or whether you need to use SPF on a cloudy day?  The way our skin looks reveals a great deal about our health and self care practices.  Skipping out on washing your makeup off at night can cause it to settle in fine lines making them more noticeable, or end up clogging your pores, making you more prone to breakouts.  Therefore skin care is a very crucial step in maintaining your health and beauty.


Here are some basic guidelines for your daily skin care routine.  And remember, you can always customize your skin care based on what you need that day.


Step 1: Cleansing is the genesis of all skin care routines. Use a gentle face wash for day and night.  Wash in the morning to start your day off with a fresh face. Evening cleansings are a crucial step to help remove the makeup, dirt, oil, pollen, etc. accumulated on the skin throughout the day.  If you wear makeup, oil based cleansers can help melt away the foundation, eye shadow, and waterproof mascara.  Follow the oil based cleanser with your gentle face wash.


Step 2:  Rebalance with a toner.  After cleansing your skin the pH balance has been thrown off.  Using a toner after washing your face can help bring your skin back to a healthy pH level.  It’s important to use a toner that is compatible with your skin to prevent irritation and dryness.


Step 3:  Serum superstar.  Serums may provide targeted solutions to your skin care concerns such as anti-aging, hydration, brightening dull skin, etc.


Step 4: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!  Your skin may be thirsting for hydration.  Choose a moisturizer compatible with your skin to keep it radiant and supple.  


Step 5: Don’t skip or skimp on the SPF.  Apply at least SPF 30 sunscreen during the day even if it’s cloudy.


Step 6: Vital steps to add to your skin care routine are to exfoliate at least once a week, use an eye cream, and drink plenty of water throughout the day.


Step 7: All your skin care efforts won’t be effective if you’re not getting enough sleep!

Sleep is one of the most crucial steps to staying healthy inside and out.  Your body needs that adequate amount of rest to heal itself, regenerate new healthy tissue, and get rid of toxins.  


Everyone’s skin is different.  Your skin needs can also change throughout the week, depending on the weather, hormones, and your diet.  The main idea is to have a routine to care for your skin everyday, just like brushing your teeth.  Skin is the largest organ in our body and it needs just as much love as other parts of the body to stay in good physical condition and radiant.
